Brief IQ — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23/05/26
Brief IQ (“Brief IQ”, “we”, “us”) helps in-house creative teams check the quality of creative briefs. This policy explains what data we access, why, how we handle it, and the choices you have. It covers our website, our API, and the Brief IQ Gmail add-on.
If you have questions, contact us at hello@briefiq.co.
The Short Version
- The Brief IQ Gmail add-on only reads the single email you have open, and only when you ask it to check that email.
- We do not read, list, scan, or store the rest of your mailbox.
- We send the text of the brief you’re checking to our own analysis service to generate your report and a suggested reply. We do not sell it or share it with advertisers or unrelated third parties.
- The add-on never sends email on your behalf. It can only save a draft for you to review and send yourself.
- You can stop using Brief IQ and revoke its access at any time.
What We Access, and Why
When You Use the Gmail Add-On
When you open an email and ask Brief IQ to check it, the add-on accesses the content of that one open message — its text, subject, and sender — so we can analyse it as a creative brief and show you a quality report. This uses Google’s gmail.addons.current.message.readonly permission, which by design only exposes the message you are currently viewing. The add-on cannot see any other message in your inbox.
If you ask Brief IQ to draft a clarification reply, we use Google’s gmail.compose permission to save a draft reply in that email thread. We never send mail for you — the draft sits in your drafts until you review it and send it yourself. We deliberately do not request permission to send mail.
When You Use the Website
If you paste a brief into our website to check it, we receive the text you paste so we can analyse it and return a report.
Account and Contact Information
If you join a waitlist, sign up, or contact us, we collect the information you give us — such as your name and email address — to communicate with you and provide the service.
How Your Brief Data Is Processed and Stored
To generate your report and any suggested reply, the text of the brief you check is sent to:
- Our own Brief IQ analysis service, and
- Our AI processing provider (Anthropic), which generates the analysis. Brief text sent for analysis is not used to train their models.
Storage and retention. We store the briefs you check, along with their resulting scores and findings, in order to operate and improve Brief IQ. We retain this data for as long as needed for those purposes. We do not store the rest of your mailbox — only the briefs you actively check. You can request deletion of your stored briefs at any time by contacting us at hello@briefiq.co.
How We Use Data
We use the data described above to:
- Analyse briefs and return quality reports and suggested replies;
- Operate, maintain, and improve Brief IQ;
- Communicate with you about the service.
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties except the processors needed to run the service (described above) or where required by law.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Brief IQ’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We only use Google user data to provide and improve the user-facing features described in this policy, and we do not transfer or use it for serving ads, or for any purpose unrelated to those features.
Your Choices and Controls
- Revoke access. You can remove Brief IQ’s access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Delete your data. Contact us at hello@briefiq.co to request deletion of briefs we’ve stored.
- Stop using the service. Uninstall the add-on or stop using the website at any time.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the data we handle, including encrypted transport (HTTPS) between the add-on, our service, and our processors. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect specifically to reduce risk.
Children
Brief IQ is a workplace tool intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above and, where appropriate, communicated to you directly.
